Yoga For Weight Loss

I know, I know, how can yoga help with weight loss?  Well I believe it can – and I’m not alone.  I enjoy my food (yes that includes chocolate cake – like the recipe here) as much as the next person but I think that over eating can be prevented with consistent yoga practice and here are a couple of reasons why you should think about it if you’re looking to shed a few pounds…

Even the gentlest forms of yoga can help with weight loss over time – this is because the stretching reduces tension in the body which in turn reduces stress levels.  Stress in the body causes secretions of cortisol which increases appetite and makes you feel hungry.  This is the body’s natural response to feeling stressed over long periods.  Your body feels that it can’t cope and needs more food to help it.  The relaxation we do in yoga also helps to alleviate stress building up in the body.  A stress free body is one that feels it can cope…

RELAXATION = LESS STRESS = HAPPY BODY = NO NEED TO STUFF YOUR FACE

One of the great benefits of yoga asana (postures) is the affect it has on your posture. By strengthening the core muscles we hold ourselves better, standing taller and moving with grace.  Even after just a few sessions, people report of feeling lighter and walking taller.  This has an impact on how we see ourselves, our confidence and how our clothes hang!  Not to mention the effect this has on our cardiovascular system…

BETTER BREATHING = MORE NUTRITION TO THE TISSUES = MORE ENERGY = MORE MOVEMENT = BETTER ELIMINATION

All ending in less weight in the body.

Don’t just take my word for it… have a look at this article by Dr Timothy McCall
