The following videos offer simple exercises to give you an idea of what we do in the Do Yoga! classes. If you have not practised yoga before it please read through the BASIC GUIDELINES before you start. Always listen to your body and treat it with respect. Never do anything that causes pain.
EXERCISES TO STRENGTHEN YOUR BACK
This is an easy set of gentle exercises to strengthen the muscles running down both sides of the spine. It is also useful if you have a weak side – regular practice will help to balance both sides. It’s not a suitable exercise for pregnancy or any abdominal or breast issues as we lie on the front of the body for quite some time. If you have a problem with your neck, back or sacro-illiac joint, proceed with great caution!
DID YOU GET OUT OF BED ON THE WRONG SIDE?
If you got up feeling grumpy and your back feels a bit tight then these stretches are for you… This practice will give you some get-up-and-go plus give you a little compassion for yourself. This is not suitable for pregnancy or problems which will feel uncomfortable if you lie on the front of your body.
BALANCING CAT EXERCISE
In this video we’ll work gently through the balancing cat exercise – this will strengthen your arms and shoulders, back, legs and hips. A real all round strengthener – just be careful if you have any problems with your wrists – you can still do it but take rests often and always stop if you feel any pain.
