BEGINNERS YOGA

These classes are suitable for all levels of fitness.  No previous experience of yoga is necessary as postures and practices are demonstrated and the pace is fairly easy going.  There is scope for plenty of extension work for those more able and with options of rest or alternative practice so each student can work at their individual pace.  We warm up all parts of the body and work on stretching and strength asana (postures) – sometimes flowing and sometimes static.  In this class you will learn about your own body, strengthening any weak areas and opening stiff joints. We work on basic breathing exercises (pranayama) and end with a 15 minute relaxation session dissolving stress and anxiety.  Students leave clam yet invigorated.

YOGA & MEDITATION

These classes are suitable for all levels of fitness.  Previous experience of yoga in one of the beginners or yoga fit classes is recommended to gain the necessary understanding of yoga practice and to develop the strength and flexibility of your own body. This class includes asana work with the emphasis on both physical and mental equilibrium.  The class incorporates pranayama for relaxation and to develop concentration where we sit still for 15 minutes and longer. The practices of mudra, bandha, mantra and chanting are included where appropriate.  We end the class with a guided meditation and/or deep relaxation. Many students in this class have their own daily practice and this is supported with detailed handouts and 1-2-1 guidance.

YOGA FIT

Suitable for all levels of fitness, the emphasis with these classes is to move the body through correctly aligned flowing posture work in unison with the breath. No previous experience of yoga is necessary – just an open mind and an open heart.  Students are introduced to all aspects of yoga in a fun and inquisitive manner. Following a warm up, postures are learned with key aspects highlighted. The class ends with a 5 minute breathing exercise.

My classes are based on 15 years personal practice of yoga and 5 years teaching gaining much valuable insight from my students.  My main teacher comes from a tradition of yoga called Satyananda.  This style of yoga has a strong element of discipline and takes a balanced approach to the posture, breathing and relaxation exercises.  That said, I adapt the classes to suit the level of the participants and also to suit the time of year and my own inclinations – I draw influences from other styles of yoga, adding a sprinkling of my own personality and fun elements as much as time allows.  Each term I introduce students to a new aspect of yoga and the classes build up week by week, developing understanding and skills to lead a happy, fulfilled life.  Due to the nature of my classes, I don’t offer ‘drop ins’ and encourage students to commit to regular attendance.

Please book by email beforehand as places are limited and arrive 10 minutes early to settle in. You will need to bring a mat, blocks and blanket.  Please allow extra time before your first class to find the hall and fill out a registration form.
