Beginners Yoga – Freedom Of The Spine

We move the body to reduce tension

Our first term of Beginners Yoga will focus on Freedom of the Spine. As the old saying goes YOU ARE AS YOUNG AS YOUR SPINE IS FLEXIBLE. So in all our yoga, we are on a mission to help our spines become more flexible. The only way to do this is to practice gently, little and often. No matter how old or how stiff you may feel, working gently, just doing what you can will help the spine to feel a little free-er in time.

Part of our classes will be to learn about how the spine works, what it does and why things can go wrong. By understanding your body you will be able to judge if an exercise is good for you or not. We can make some modifications to the movements to ensure that your yoga practice is right for you.

The spine is such a central part of our body, with the nervous system running through it that it affects our whole life. The gentle exercises that we will do in class will have an effect on the muscles and organs of the torso and the blood flow all around the body. Many minor ailments can be lessened with gentle movements.

Another essential part of our class will be to relax the spine. Sometimes our stiffness is a left-over habit from when we had a problem. The problem may have corrected itself (our bodies are marvelous, self-healing organisms) but the way that we held ourselves may have caused other muscles to tighten. The practice of conscious relaxation helps the body to ‘re-set’ itself and can be a very effective way of freeing up joints.

Beginners Yoga is suitable for men and women over 18 who would like to learn simple exercises to look after themselves. The classes are on Monday evenings at Exton Village Hall 7 – 8 and Tuesday mornings at Empingham Audit Hall 10.30 – 11.30. You can book your place online by clicking on the links and Paying by PayPal or contact me by email to book and pay by bank transfer.

The classes will begin w/c 12th September and cost £40 for the 6 week term. Places are limited by the hall size so please book early if you would like to join us to avoid disappointment.
