March 21st is this year’s Spring Equinox – where daylight hours are equal to night time. This is the time of year when yogis do more ‘cleansing’ practices – to shake of that stodgy feeling of heaviness. You might like to drink plenty of water, take a long walk in the countryside or maybe do some yoga practice to help rid body and mind of stagnant energy… here’s a few suggestions…
There are a variety of yogic ‘shatkarmas’ – ways of detoxifying our bodies. The ancient yogis saw these practices as part of the purification of the body and mind.
In our classes over the years we have practiced Kapalbhati which is a way of cleansing the mind using fast, deep breathing. A meditation called Trataka is where we practice gazing with unblinking eyes at a candle flame. The Shakti Bandha series is a more physical way to release toxins. All of these exercises are said to release deep seated emotions which can weigh down our thoughts and outlook on life. It is not necessary to know or be conscious that release is happening – but following the practice you may sometimes feel happier or lighter.
However you ‘change over’ seasons, be happy and feel light x
